Tomatin is a significant Highland distillery located just south of Inverness that is celebrated for producing a mellow and approachable spirit often described as the softer side of the Highlands.
History
The distillery was formally established in 1897 during the Victorian whisky boom, and while it once stood as the largest distillery in Scotland with twenty-three stills, it has since refocused on quality and the premium single malt market.
Signature Whisky
The Tomatin 12 Year Old is the flagship expression of the distillery, known for its elegant complexity derived from maturation in a combination of traditional Scotch whisky, ex-Bourbon, and ex-Spanish Sherry casks.
Tasting Notes
The nose is complex and fresh with aromas of wild heather, pine, and cedar that develop into notes of crème caramel and apples, while the palate is silky smooth with flavors of buttery fudge, pears, and a hint of dark chocolate.
